Freelance Full Stack engineer

As a Software Engineer II, you will take ownership of technical delivery throughout the software lifecycle, from implementation and testing to deployment, monitoring, and production support. You will work closely with Product Owners, Engineers, and other stakeholders to design, prioritize, and implement technical solutions that support business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

• Build and maintain software applications using Java, JavaScript, and SQL.
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Write clean, readable, reusable, and maintainable code.
• Apply standard development patterns and engineering best practices.
• Refactor and simplify code to improve maintainability and sustainability.
• Develop and maintain automated tests with the same quality standards as production code.
• Ensure data security, integrity, and quality by following established standards and best practices.

End-to-End System Ownership

• Own services and applications throughout their lifecycle.
• Monitor application health, performance, and operational metrics.
• Respond to issues when service metrics or performance thresholds are breached.
• Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and support procedures.
• Contribute to continuous delivery and experimentation practices.
• Independently manage deployments and production operations.

Technical Incident Management

• Investigate and resolve production incidents within agreed service levels.
• Minimize customer impact during live incidents.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term improvements.
• Contribute to incident reviews and postmortems.
• Improve overall platform stability and reliability.

Architecture & Systems Design

• Contribute to technical solution design and architectural discussions.
• Evaluate solution options based on business, technical, and operational requirements.
• Understand the wider system landscape and the impact of technical changes.
• Design solutions that meet current needs and can support future growth.
• Provide input on architectural decisions and technical direction.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve development processes, systems, and engineering practices.
• Implement improvements that increase quality, efficiency, and business performance.
• Support junior team members in following engineering standards and best practices.
• Promote a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

Communication & Collaboration

• Communicate technical information clearly to different audiences.
• Collaborate effectively with Product Owners, Engineering peers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Ask relevant questions and actively engage in technical discussions to drive better outcomes.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong Full Stack development experience.
• Strong experience with Java.
• Strong experience with JavaScript.
• Strong experience with SQL and database development.
• Experience building and maintaining software applications.
• Experience with End-to-End System Ownership.
• Experience monitoring and supporting applications in production.
• Experience with Technical Incident Management.
• Experience with Software Systems Design.
• Familiarity with Architectural Guidance and technical decision-making.
• Experience with automated testing and software quality practices.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
