Main duties

The Senior Project Manager will:

  • Take full responsibility for planning, managing and successfully completing medium-scale projects.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams and support higher-level project managers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Apply suitable project management methods, tools and processes.
  • Develop and maintain realistic project plans.
  • Manage scope, costs, schedules, resources and quality.
  • Produce regular, accurate project status reports.
  • Ensure deliverables are completed within agreed budgets and timescales and formally accepted by stakeholders.
  • Monitor project performance and take corrective action when agreed tolerances are exceeded.
  • Schedule and manage project and product quality reviews.
  • Identify, assess and manage project risks.

Stakeholder management

  • Identify stakeholder communication and relationship requirements.
  • Develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for stakeholders.
  • Facilitate communication, discussions and business decision-making.
  • Capture and distribute relevant technical and business information.
  • Provide informed feedback and promote shared understanding among stakeholder groups.

Change and contract management

  • Investigate and manage authorised changes to baselined requirements.
  • Evaluate the impact of proposed changes and advise stakeholders on their consequences.
  • Oversee contractual obligations in coordination with the assigned contract officer.
  • Use key performance indicators to monitor supplier performance.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Develop responses to underperformance or compliance failures, including applying contract terms with the contract officer.

Additional responsibilities

  • Assess and select relevant standards, processes, tools and applications.
  • Support the adoption of new technologies and digital tools.
  • Contribute project management expertise to requirements and proposals.
  • Share knowledge and support the professional development of colleagues.
  • Remain current with evolving project management practices.
  • Identify development opportunities for themselves and team members.
  • Apply security, privacy and ethical principles to all work.

Essential qualifications and experience

Candidates should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and at least three years of relevant post-degree experience; or
  • At least ten years of extensive and progressive relevant experience if they do not hold a degree.
  • At least three recent years of experience managing acquisition or development projects for a large organisation.
  • Strong experience with project management tools and managing project costs and labour.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams, preferably in an international environment.
  • Experience in project administration, including resource management, financing and budgeting.
  • A recognised project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or PMP. Significant expertise may compensate for the absence of formal certification.

Desirable experience

  • Successful leadership of C4ISR acquisition project teams.
  • Experience with ServiceNow and collaborative work-management tools.
  • Knowledge of NATO or national government acquisition policies and procurement procedures.
  • Experience working in an international environment involving military and civilian personnel.
  • Knowledge of NATO’s organisation and responsibilities, including Allied Command Operations and Allied Command Transformation.

Working conditions and travel

  • Full-time work at the Braine-l’Alleud duty location.
  • Business travel may be required one or two times per month to NATO, national and non-NATO facilities.
  • Frequent travel between NCIA offices may also be required.
