Function As a Product Owner, you will be responsible for two development teams, with a primary focus on one team that delivers backend services powering ABN AMRO’s digital customer channels. These services are critical to the stability, performance, scalability, and continuous improvement of the bank’s digital ecosystem. You will join a department that owns and operates ABN AMRO’s digital channels, including the mobile app and online banking platforms that serve millions of customer interactions every day. The department is responsible for ensuring excellent channel performance while building and evolving shared platform capabilities and services that enable development teams across the digital landscape to deliver features faster, at lower cost, and with higher quality. As Product Owner, you will define and communicate product priorities, maximize delivered value, and ensure alignment between business objectives, technology strategy, and team execution. You are expected to make informed prioritization decisions, manage stakeholder expectations, and provide clear direction on what should be delivered and why. This role is not focused on facilitating Scrum ceremonies or detailed task management; instead, it requires strong product ownership, value-driven decision-making, and active stakeholder management. With the following results (SMART) Result 1: Team Repositioning and Strategic Focus Within the first 6 months, successfully guide the primary development team through a transition from a predominantly legacy-focused scope towards a clear product vision centered on the team’s strategic platform and service capabilities. Establish and communicate a well-defined team mission, product scope, and roadmap that are understood and supported by key stakeholders and team members. Success will be demonstrated by: A documented and agreed team mission and product scope within the first 3 months. A prioritization approach that consistently favors strategic platform development over legacy-driven work, unless required for risk mitigation or regulatory compliance. Alignment among key stakeholders on the team’s responsibilities, priorities, and long-term objectives. A measurable increase in capacity dedicated to the development and adoption of new platform components and services. Regular stakeholder reviews confirming understanding and support of the team’s renewed strategic direction. Result 2: Product Backlog Management Within the first 3 months, establish and maintain a transparent, prioritized product backlog for the assigned teams, with all backlog items aligned to strategic goals via the epic-episode-saga structure. Result 3: Predictable Value Delivery Ensure that at least 90% of committed high-priority backlog items are delivered within the agreed planning cycle, while maintaining alignment with business and technology priorities. Result 4: Stakeholder Alignment Establish a structured stakeholder management approach within the first 2 months, resulting in clear prioritization decisions, documented roadmap alignment, and positive stakeholder feedback on transparency and communication Requirements Minimum 2 years of experience as a Product Owner in an Agile software development environment. Proven experience working on digital customer channels such as mobile applications, online platforms, digital products, or customer-facing services. Experience managing and prioritizing backlogs for software engineering teams.
