Locatie: Utrecht (hybride) About the team You will join the Sanctions Tech Innovation team within Area Global Sanctions, which is part of the Financial Economic Crime Tech department. The team is responsible for building, improving and maintaining data‑driven solutions that support sanctions controls across the bank. The team mainly consists of data scientists and focuses on developing new (AI) models and supporting major enhancements to existing solutions, supported by strong data engineering capabilities. Working in close collaboration with sanctions experts, risk owners and alert/client investigators, the team is actively involved in translating ideas into production‑ready solutions, from gathering requirements through to development and deployment. This role is focused on DevOps and data engineering within the Sanctions Tech Innovation team. Experience with sanctions, financial economic crime and regulatory environments is highly appreciated, as is an intrinsic interest in this area. If you do not yet have direct sanctions experience, we expect a clear motivation to learn and engage with the domain, as understanding the context is important for building effective and responsible data solutions. Your role As a DevOps Engineer, you are responsible for designing, building and deploying production‑grade data & AI solutions. You will work on data ingestion, transformation, orchestration and deployment, ensuring solutions are secure, compliant and future‑proof. Beyond delivery, we are looking for someone who: Proactively identifies issues in data quality, performance or architecture and follows through on resolution Takes initiative to propose and implement structural improvements that benefit the wider team Actively collaborates with colleagues across disciplines and contributes to shared ownership of solutions Communicates clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders Shares knowledge and contributes to continuous improvement of ways of working What you will do As a DevOps Engineer in the Sanctions Tech Innovation team, your focus is on the technical engineering aspects of (AI) models and data solutions developed within the team. While data scientists are primarily responsible for model logic and analytical design, you play a key role in ensuring these solutions can be built, deployed and run in a robust, scalable and compliant way. You work closely with data scientists and IT engineers of the IT side of FEC Tech, providing input on technical feasibility and design, and taking ownership of the data engineering and platform components that enable solutions to move safely into production. Currently, the main priorities of the team are: Optimize automated closure of false Level 1 detection alerts The real‑time detection approach relies heavily on text matching, which can lead to irrelevant alerts such as coincidental similarities or near matching names. The lowest quality alerts that are not eligible for manual review are referred to as Level 1. On top of initiatives taken in recent years, we will further explore methods to identify and close the false-positive alerts in this group.
